Child Dental Benefits At Albany Dental Gosford

What Is The Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a dental benefits program for eligible children aged 2-17 years that provides up to $1,000 in benefits to the child for basic dental services. Services that receive a benefit under the program include examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, extractions and more.

Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital. The payment of benefits under the CDBS is administered through the Department of Human Services.

Is My Child Eligible For CDBS?

The Department of Human Services assesses a child’s eligibility from the start of each calendar year. A child is eligible if they are eligible for Medicare, aged 2-17 years at any point in the calendar year and receive a relevant Australian government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A at any point in the calendar year.

A notification of eligibility will be sent to the child or the child’s carer either electronically, or in the form of a letter. This letter and Medicare card must be presented by the patient to the practice at the time of their appointment.

Booking An Appointment Using CDBS

When you book an appointment, say you want to use CDBS. Check how close you are to the $1,000 limit. This will tell you what benefit amount you can get. If you’re not sure how much is left you can check your Medicare online account.

At the appointment, discuss:

  • what each service will cost
  • if CDBS will cover the services.

You’ll get a consent form. This says you agree to the services and what they cost. Read through these carefully, then sign if you agree. Albany Dental will then take care of the rest.
